Yolonda Coles Jones brings her whole heart, her deep spirituality, and her real life experiences to stages large and small when she offers her story and her being. She performs supported by an ever-changing cast of musical associates as "Mother Jones Music." Raised the eldest daughter of a holiness pastor and his evangelist wife, Yolonda’s earliest memories are of car rides to church with her parents, her brother and grandmothers; prayer services, choir rehearsals, Bible studies and late night musical presentations featuring some of the most talented singers and musicians the world and the American music industry has known.
It wasn’t until middle school that Yolonda realized her own voice was “featureworthy.” She began writing and performing her own songs in her junior year at her Charlottesville, VA high school. She quickly caught the attention of local leaders and organizations that extended invitations for her to solo at countless auspicious gatherings and events throughout her matriculation there and during her time at Hampton University in Hampton, VA. As an undergraduate student she shared stages and studios with Musiq Soulchild, John Legend, Shay Haley of Virginia Beach’s famed hip hop, rock and funk band N.E.R.D and gospel legend John P. Kee to name a few.
In her adulthood, Yolonda is doing the revolutionary work of mindfully raising four black American children as “free people” and decidedly building business around her family. When she has not been assembling a discography of both writing and performance credits in genre categories to include gospel, rock, blues, CCM, classical and R&B she is a home-based educating mom, a selfdirected education advocate and a personal empowerment coach. She was steeped in soul as a child. In making her own journey—over mountaintops, through dark valleys and across broken roads—to greater consciousness and wisdom she has cultivated a rich inner life that supports her own soul’s mighty and moving expression.
Restoration Village Arts has partnered with Yolonda to deliver her first EP Project—due for release and a listening room/house concert tour in 2020.
