This past summer Restoration Village Arts found a new home base in Charlottesville, VA, a home with space enough for a little studio, a guest suite and a garden.  Through the fall we have been taking care of details and practicing hosting people in order to start receiving people on a regular basis!

In 2016, Restoration Village Arts invites artists, music ministers and peacemakers to apply for residencies ranging from one week to one month.  Preference will be given to people from historically marginalized or underrepresented groups as well as individuals working with marginalized communities.

Selected residents will be given space to write and create as well as access to the Restoration Village Arts music studio.  Meals and hospitality will be provided through the entirety of the residency and applicants may also apply for financial aid to cover round trip transportation to Charlottesville, VA and expenses related to obtaining a visa.

The majority of the time will be given for the resident to retreat and use the time as s/he needs.  Opportunities to learn about the contextual history of Charlottesville and national movements for justice in the U.S. will be woven into the experience as well as opportunities for the resident to share with the local community through community gatherings and concerts. Located in downtown Charlottesville, residents will enjoy walkability and the freedom to explore local sights, trails and coffee shops as well as a free trolley to the University of Virginia and easy access by train to Washington D.C.  Full of artists and creative community spaces, and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, residents will find both retreat and inspiration.

Applicants may submit a letter of interest in English, Spanish or Portuguese stating 1) How they understand their work through the lens of peacemaking, 2) how a residency with Restoration Village Arts will benefit their work and 3) what month and what length of time they are seeking a residency.  Initial letters of interest should be no more than one page in length.  If space is available and requirements met, a follow up application will be sent.

Letters of interest can be sent to viva(at)restorationvillagearts.org.
